Visit Nepal 2020’s Promotional Activities
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) postpone Visit Nepal 2018 to 2020. The event was postponed to get more time to reconstruct the structures that were damaged by the massive 2015 earthquake. The construction of Lumbini and Pokhara airports were not completed either. Thus, the government has escalated the pace of reconstruction work to complete unfinished projects by 2020. Tribhuvan airport along with domestic airports is upgraded. The number of night flights has increased to ensure the easy availability of air service.
The government has allocated NRs. 100 million budget to make the Visit Nepal 2020 a massive success. Around 100 new tourist areas such as Gorkha, Parbat, Tanahu Chitwan and Jhapa have been identified. To produce well-equipped manpower in the tourism industry, it proposed a plan to train over 10,000 people.
Translating the slogan into a different language was important to promote the campaign in the international market. Thus, the cabinet decided to translate it in ten different languages including Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic languages. To attract Chinese tourists, the policy of waving the Chinese visa fee was introduced.
The neighbor-first policy focuses on drawing tourists from India and China. Under this policy, a team of Nepali experts is working in India and China to promote Visit Nepal 2020.
With the motive of promoting Nepal as a cultural hub, not just a mountainous country, the MoCTCA has identified around 100 cultural heritages and ancient towns like Khaptad, Janakpur, Swargadwari, Muktinath, and Lumbini as a tourist destination.
To increase accommodation facilities, numerous new hotels are constructed. Moreover, Homestay in remote villages is also increasing. In June 2019, ‘Himalayan Travel Mart’ was conducted in Kathmandu with the hope of attracting UK tourists.
In 2018, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) attended Tourism Expo Event help in Japan where the tourist was informed about multiple tourist destinations. The committee is planning to participate in the upcoming event as well. To promote tourism at the local level, infrastructures are being developed in each province.
NTB is planning to explore a different type of tourism like shopping tourism, sports tourism, volunteer tourism, gastronomic tourism and more. It is focusing on offering tourists with more activities to make their stay period enthralling.
The MoCTCA will propose the air service agreement with New Zealand, Turkey and UAE to provide air service to a larger number of tourists. Additionally, it is planning to revisit the agreement with China, Egypt, Japan, and Thailand. In 2019, the direct flight between Japan and Nepal started.
Amending the Tourism Act and mountaineering Expedition Regulation, Travel and Trekking Regulation and Casino Regulation is another major move of MoCTCA. It is planning to launch the master plan to preserve the tourist sites and establish the Tourism University. MoCTCA is planning to work with NAC and add two narrow-body aircraft. The government aims to draw 2 million tourists in 2020.

Visit Nepal 1998: Visit Nepal campaign was conducted in 1998 for the first time to promote Nepal as a tourist destination in the global market. With the theme ‘A sustainable habitat through sustainable tourism and marketing slogan ‘Visit Nepal ’98 – A world of its own’ Nepal welcomed around 400,000 international visitors in 1998. His Majesty’s Government on April 12, 1996 announced the campaign. That year the country earned revenue of 152.500 USD mn from the tourism industry. The successful event established Nepal as a cultural hub among foreign visitors.
The government focused on offering the best quality services, delivering quality in product, and make the Nepali people the part of the great festive to attain higher yield from tourism. Nepal Tourism Year 2011: On 23rd October 2008 cabinet decided to observe NTY 2011, however, the event was officially launched on Feb 26, 2010. The theme of NTY 2011 was ‘Together for Tourism’. The year welcomed around eight hundred thousand tourists. That year the country earned revenue of 341.485 USD mn from the tourism industry.

The Nepali tourism industry that extended its wings in 1953 after Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary successfully summited the world’s tallest mountain, Mt Everest has been blooming since then. In the late 70s, Nepal was popular among the stoners as there was a free flow of high-quality marijuana and hashish throughout the country. Taplejung is a small hill-station with several well-equipped hotels catering visitors. The journey to Pathibhara begins in Suketar. Here onward there is no transportation facility. To reach Pathibhara, you will have to walk through Deurali, Ramitedada, Chhatendunga, Sano Phedi, Bhalugauda, and thulo Phedi. A round trip will take around 6 to 8 hours. On a clear day, you can get an up-close vista of Mt. Kanchanjunga from the top of the hill.
- Tsho Rolpa Glacial Lake: Mesmerizing glacier lake, Tasho Rolpa sits at an altitude of 4,183 meters. It is located in the Rolwaling Valley. The trail leading to the lake features beautiful terraced fields, thick forests, raging rivers, and sparkling mountains. Tamang, Sherpa, Brahmin, and Chhetri dominate most of the villages in these areas. Walk on the path dotted with mani stones, prayer flags, and gompas. The vistas of mountains like Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar make the hike interesting.
