Itinerary
Arrival to Paro. Accommodation and town visit. Overnight in hotel.
Morning visit of Kyichu lhakhang, the temple built in 8th century by Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. Climb to Taktsang gompa (Tiger’s Nest), most venerated and holy place in Bhutan overlooking valley from the steep cliff. Afternoon visit of National Museum and Paro dzong, castle where Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little Buddha film was shot. Overnight in hotel.
Drive over the Chelela pass (3890 m) to rarely visited Haa valley. On the way we will do hike to Kila gompa, oldest nunnery in Bhutan from 14th century. From there we continue through the ancient forest up to the summit of Chelela pass in which we can even reach the 4000 meters high summit. Panoramic view in clear weather are outstanding. In Haa we will visit few local monasteries and temples. Finally we will reach three hundred years old farmhouse where we will stay in care of welcoming host family. In the evening you can also have unique experience of taking traditional hot stone bath. Overnight in farmhouse.
At the morning we will play traditional game of khuru (darts) and archery with local people and we will also see the performance of local dance and music. After lunch, we depart to Thimphu via scenic road to Chuzom. After arrival to Thimphu, we will visit Taschicho dzong, the castle which severs a seat of king and government. Overnight in hotel.
Excursion to Takin zoo, where the national animal, the mysterious takin, is kept. After that we will drive to the north edge of Thimphu valley and we will climb to Tango or Cheri gompa. This historically significant monasteries are home to vibrant monk community. We will see how monks live and we will get a meditation lesson from the experience monk teacher. We will also have food with monks and will get prayer flags blessed. These prayer flags we will place on appropriate place near monastery for sake of all sentient beings. By the afternoon, we will take road to Wangdue over Dochula pass (3010 m).
Early morning climb to Khamsum monastery with wonderful view of the valley and it‘s terraced paddy fields. Optionally you can also make rafting ride to Punakha dzong (charges apply). Visit of Punkaha dzong, which counts as the most intricately decorated castle in the kingdom. Short walk to Chhimmy lhakhang temple, devoted to 15th century saint Drukpa Kuneley, know as “Divine madman”, who did taught Buddhism by singing, drinking and rampant sexual behaviour. EveningEvening drive to Paro. Overnight in hotel.
