Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trekking is a legendary trip to the Everest Khumbu region. The trek begins from Jiri, unlike from the airstrip of Lukla and leads you through the awesome landscape. Jiri is also known as the Switzerland of Nepal. The trek to EBC via Jiri is an excellent long trip that offers the magnificent Himalayan views and the cultural attractions both in alpine and downhill area of the trekking trail.

Trek from Jiri to Everest base camp is a dynamic journey. The starting point of the trek goes through the Gaurishanker region. It is dominated by the unique landscape and forests. The trail was discovered by the Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary team, who climbed Mt. Everest in 1953AD. Near Lukla, called Phakding, the trek adjoins to the busy trail of Everest base camp. Khumbu region is a naturally overloaded destination with the 8000 meter peaks, diversity in Sagarmatha National Park and the Sherpa culture along with their unique hospitality. Physical fitness and acclimatization are essential things for the successful trek. The spectacular views of the snowy peaks as Mt. Everest (8848 meters), Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse and the surrounding peaks can be explored. The Tibetan Buddhist cultural part of this route is considered to be the extremely rich and an iconic mountain trail that people can get into the insights of the cultural prosperity.

Itinerary

Our representative will be receiving you at Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu and s/he will be transferred to the hotel in our private tourist vehicle. Overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast included)

In the morning, we set up a pre-trip meeting with an introduction of the trekking guide. Managing the document to prepare the paperwork for the trekking, then we visit the UNESCO listed world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley, including Boudhnath Stupa, one of the biggest Buddhist shrines in the world, the Pashupatinath temple that is situated beside the Bagmati River. Driving back to the hotel, you prepare the trek with packing your belongings. Overnight at hotel. (Breakfast included)

After the breakfast at the hotel, drive to Jiri, which is about 187 km northeast of Kathmandu. The driving route is winding through the countryside and you encounter with the picturesque town of Jiri. The view of Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lhakpa and Langtang range can be explored. Then, we drive further to Bhandara. 9-10 hours.Overnight at Bhandara Lodge (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

Beginning the trek from Bhandrara after the breakfast, we pass the Dokharpa and Baranda villages. Trekking down to the stream, head further to the Likhu Khola. After a short walk along the bank, hike towards the Kenga and Chimbu village. Sete is located ahead there. 7 hours,Overnight at Sete lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

After the breakfast at Sete, we climb up to the Lamjura Pass, heading through the pine, birch and rhododendron forest. Some of the tiny villages like Dagchu and Goyem lie on the route. The wonderful view point of Lamjura La (3560 meters) offers the beautiful panorama of the Himalayas and the countryside. Then we climb down to Tragdobuk and walk continually to Junbesi. 7 hours, Overnight at lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

Beginning the trek from Junbesi, cross the stream and climb up the forest slope for an hour. The incredible mountain views can be explored, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Makalu and others. Heading forward, we pass Ringmo Khola, Taksindo La Pass and the trail escort us to Nunthala. 7-8 hours, Overnight at Lodge.(Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

The descending trail to the Dudh Koshi River after the breakfast is a gradual down walk. Following the river, we walk towards the uphill route and crossing the bridge, we head towards Churko. Then we head forward to Kharikhola and crossing another bridge, we reach to Bupsa. 5-6 hours walk, overnight at lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

After the breakfast at Bupsa, the journey through the forest begins passing Kharte. It is an uphill climb towards the Khari La Pass that offers some of the impressive lower altitude peaks. From the pass, trek down to Surke. Heading further Via Chaurikharka and Chhiplung to reach Phakding. The trek now connects with the main EBC trail via Lukla. 8 hours, Overnight stay at lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Included)

The wonderful breakfast at the lodge fills the energy to climb up through the steep hillside trail. First the trek crosses some of the suspension bridges and the Sagarmatha National Park begins. Then it is a steep uphill climb to the bustling town of The Sherpa people. During the trek, you can explore the Everest Himalayan wonders from the trail. Overnight at lodge.

During the altitude adaptation day, instead of going towards the high altitude, hike around the Namche Bazaar and khumjung. Exploration of the glittering Everest scenery along with the crowded setting of the market place is a nice walk around. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache looks cool during the hike. Overnight at lodge.

The journey towards the alpine altitude begins after the breakfast. First, we climb towards the hill ridge and walk through the gentle trail. It goes up through the right flank of the Dudh Koshi River and heads towards the Tengbuvhe monastery. It is a wonderful part of the Khumbu with the spiritual scenery of the Tibetan Buddhism. 5-6 hours walk. Overnight at lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

From Tengbuche, we take a walk descending through the forest to the Imja Khola and the village of Pangbuche. Then, take a route towards Dingbuche enjoying the mind blowing scenery of the Ama Dablam and its surrounding peaks. Dingboche is also known as the ‘summer valley’. 7 hours walk. Overnight at the lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner included).

After the breakfast at Dingbuche, we trek along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche (4240 m). At the center, volunteers from different countries staffed for the Himalayan rescue operation mission and the quick treatment. Heading through the pasture land, we reach to Lobuche. 6 hours walk. It’s a wonderful and equally challenging day to gain the height of Mt. Everest base camp from Lobuche. The best view of Khumbu glacier assists us in the beginning and reaching Gorakshep, have a lunch. Then, we proceed towards the Everest base camp. This can be exhausting walk, but the experience is far better than the tiredness. Then trek down to Gorakshep for the rest. Overnight at lodge. 7- 8 hours, overnight at Lodge, (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Included)

Kalapatthar is one of the best viewpoints for the close mountain overlook. It is located at 5555 meters altitude and the dramatic sunrise view over the towering peaks are breathtaking. Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and several other dramatic peaks can be explored. We then trek back to Gorekshep, for breakfast and then descend to Pheriche. 7-8 hours walk, overnight at Lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Included)

Its time to walk down after the breakfast at Pheriche. On the way, we get a chance to explore the wild animals like mountain goats, musk deer and many species of Himalayan birds. The Tibetan Buddhist monasteries around Pangboche and Phortse are pretty much antique that dates back to the 16th century. 6 hours walk, overnight at Lodge, (Breakfast, Lunch,Dinner Included)

After the breakfast at Phortse Tenga, we begin to hike down to the Monjo village via Khumjung. First we hike up to the hill ridge and get the astounding Himalayan panorama then head towards the Namche Bazaar. Hiking down from there through the steep downhill trail, we exit from the Sgarmatha National Park and reach to Monju. 8 hours, overnight at Lodge, (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Included)

The last day of the foot hill excursion in the Everest region, we begin to trek from Manju after having a breakfast. During the trekking trails gradually descend along the bank of Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the suspension bridges, pass Phakding and walk gradually towards Lukla and check in to the hotel. 7 hours, overnight at Lodge. (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Included)

A short and picturesque flight from Lukla to Kathmandu concludes your trip in Everest and transfer you to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel (breakfast included).

On this day, our representative drops you at the airport for the final departure. Thank you very much for trekking with us. See you again.

Trekking equipment

The Following information will give you some idea about what you need to bring for the trek as the backpack for the hiking in Nepal and the gear play a vital role for the successful trip and we suggest you to have all the necessary gear for the trip and not to have unnecessary equipment/things that you will not be using for the trip and list of the gear you need for the trek are:

  1. Good down Sleeping bag (Optional/You need to bring your own but if you do not have on your own and it is to be chargeable during the trek.
  2. Duffel or Rucksack bag to keep your all the gear and this will be carried by the porters.
  3. Daypack bag for yourself
  4. A down Jacket
  5. Shade hat
  6. Warm wool hat to cover your ears
  7. A pair of lightweight warm gloves.
  8. T-shirts 2- 3 pieces
  9. Lightweight thermal tops.
  10. Fleece jacket.
  11. Fleece Wind-proved jacket (optional).
  12. A pair’s nylon hiking shorts which are quick drying one
  13. Underwear
  14. Two pairs of lightweight long underwear.
  15. Two pairs trekking pants, preferably that zip on/off at the knees so they double as shorts

Medicines and First Aid Kits

  1. Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude-related headaches like DMX.
  2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.
  3. Imodium or Peptone besom, Flexon capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.
  4. Diamox 125 or 250mg or 400mg tablets for altitude sickness.
  5. 1 small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as moleskin, band-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc. Reliance Trekking company’s team also provide first aid kits)

Miscellaneous but Important

  1. Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies)
  2. Durable wallet/pouch for travel documents, money & passport.
  3. Lip care (Balm) At least SPF 20, 2 sticks.
  4. Sun’s cream with SPF 40 is recommended
  5. Pocket knife.
  6. Water purification Iodine tablets
  7. Toiletry kits and be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag, hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.

Although we generally adhere to the schedule, the itinerary is subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control, including weather and terrain conditions, suitable campsite availability, and the group’s general fitness level.
