The Bardia National Park was established in 1969 as a Royal Hunting Reserve. In 1976 it was announced as the Karnali wildlife reserve with an area of 368 sq. km and in 1982 it was renamed as Bardia National Park. In 1988 it was extended to cover the whole Babai Valley to 968 square kilometers and now the area has been doubled up.

It is situated in the mid-far western region on the eastern bank of the Karnali River, about 600 km west of Kathmandu. Bardia National park is the largest untouched wilderness in the Tarai Region of Nepal, the park protects 968sq Km.of Sal forest whispering. Grassland bordering the Geruwa and Karnali Rivers. The atmosphere is wonderfully tranquil and with the current slump in, you may well have the whole place to yourself. There are estimated to be around 22 Royal Bengal tiger and 100 one-horned rhinos at Bardia national park but these animals are elusive and sightings are rare, other mammals in the park include grey langurs rhesus, macaques leopards, civets, hyenas, sloth bears, and barking, spotted, sambar and hog deer. Bardia has also more than 250 species of birds including the endangered Bengal florican sarus crane, Gharial and marsh mugger crocodiles, and Gangetic Dolphin are occasionally spotted on Rafting and canoe trips alone the Geruwa river. Be warned that Maoist rebels are active on the fringes of the national park. Visitor numbers have plummeted since the start of the insurgency and most people visit on organized tours which only run when the army and rebels are observing a ceasefire. Nepal is not only known for trekking in snow-capped Himalaya but also an exquisite Jungle safari through the pristine National park. The geography of Nepal is such that the northern side has Himalaya’s whereas the southern lowland commonly knows as Tarai is densely vegetated with tropical forest providing habitat to diverse variety of wildlife flora and different native as well as migratory birds, Nepal has got some exotic jungle safari destination in the world with 14 national parks and wildlife reserve in Nepal. Chitwan national park, Bardia, Koshi tappu wildlife reserve are best known for the activities of jungle safari. Itinerary

Our representative will be receiving you at Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu and s/he will be transffered to hotel in our private tourist vehicle. O/N at Hotel.(Breakfast included)

In the morning, after breakfast, At around 8am, we host a pre-trip meeting at your hotel in Kathmandu and introduce your trek leader/guide. Please seek this opportunity to ask questions about your trek. We will also supply you with our trek . For the meeting, please make sure you bring passport, three copies of passport-size photos, and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. During this meeting, please clear the due balance, if any, and sign the legally binding trip form as well as the non-liability disclaimer. Please inform us in advance if you will be arriving late and therefore are unable to attend the pre-trip meeting. After the Pre-Trip meeting and breakfast, your sightseeing trip will start in the morning. We visit, Boudhnath Stupa, one of the biggest Buddhist shrines in the world, where we observe Buddhist monks in prayer in the monasteries surrounding the stupa. After Boudhnath Stupa we visit Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple in the country, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here we see Hindu holy men (sadhus) meditating, pilgrims bathing and occasionally funeral pyres burning on the ghats. O/N at Hotel on Kathmandu. (Breakfast included)

It will be approximately an hour’s flight. After reaching Nepalgunj drive for 1&half hour to bardiya by Jeep.Welcome drink will be served upon arrival.O/N at Hotel on Bardiya. (Breakfast,Lunch&dinner included).

Early in the mornig you will be taken to the Jungle to see the mighty Karnali River with all its aquatic games, birds and crocodiles.You might see the Gangetic dolphins, too.An elephant back safari to explore the great one horned rhinoceros, four types of deer’s, monkeys, wild boars, leopards, elusive tiger as well.There will be native folk dance to entertain you in the evening.O/N at Hotel on Bardia.

Early in morning wake up call. Bird watching tour through Bardia National Park.There are 360 different species of birds in the park. After breakfast Visit the ethnic Tharu Village to have a close look at their social and cultural life.Return to the Hotel to prepare for journey to Nepalgunj. Catch a flight to Kathmandu.

Free day for shopping and departure After breakfast in to your hotel, we will drop you at the airport to take your onward flight as per time. If you have late flight, you will have time to do last minute shopping if you deserve. (Breakfast included)

Trekking equipment

The Following information will give you some idea about what you need to bring for the trek as the backpack for the hiking in Nepal and the gear play a vital role for the successful trip and we suggest you to have all the necessary gear for the trip and not to have unnecessary equipment/things that you will not be using for the trip and list of the gear you need for the trek are:

  1. Good down Sleeping bag (Optional/You need to bring your own but if you do not have on your own and it is to be chargeable during the trek.
  2. Duffel or Rucksack bag to keep your all the gear and this will be carried by the porters.
  3. Daypack bag for yourself
  4. A down Jacket
  5. Shade hat
  6. Warm wool hat to cover your ears
  7. A pair of lightweight warm gloves.
  8. T-shirts 2- 3 pieces
  9. Lightweight thermal tops.
  10. Fleece jacket.
  11. Fleece Wind-proved jacket (optional).
  12. A pair’s nylon hiking shorts which are quick drying one
  13. Underwear
  14. Two pairs of lightweight long underwear.
  15. Two pairs trekking pants, preferably that zip on/off at the knees so they double as shorts
  16. Four pairs of liner warm socks
  17. A pair of light to medium weight waterproof hiking/trekking boots.
  18. A pair of light trekking shoes for camp/lodges

Medicines and First Aid Kits

  1. Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude-related headaches like DMX.
  2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.
  3. Imodium or Peptone besom, Flexon capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.
  4. Diamox 125 or 250mg or 400mg tablets for altitude sickness.
  5. 1 small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as moleskin, band-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc. Reliance Trekking company’s team also provide first aid kits)

Miscellaneous but Important

  1. Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies)
  2. Durable wallet/pouch for travel documents, money & passport.
  3. Lip care (Balm) At least SPF 20, 2 sticks.
  4. Sun’s cream with SPF 40 is recommended
  5. Pocket knife.
  6. Water purification Iodine tablets
  7. Toiletry kits and be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag, hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.

Note Regarding Itineraries
Although we generally adhere to the schedule, the itinerary is subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control, including weather and terrain conditions, suitable campsite availability, and the group’s general fitness level. It is important to understand that our trek is logistically complex and it is not unusual that adjustments be made.
